yet another products of aversion towards working on Sundays..

had some trouble locating albums from After the Flood and Lucid, highly
praised in the past (thanks, Gil!). finally, got a response from the guy at
Aeterna label in Seattle that released them.

Lucid "Idylls and the secret remain"CD aeterna
remember that feeling when you were 2-3 songs into your first listen of
HNIA's "home is in your head" or "livonia". Encountering Pram or mouse on
mars? here's another equavalent of L.Carrol's creatures: not exactly
bizzare for the sake of epatage, not terribly extravagant, but rather
subliminally twisted in an outlandish yet comfortable way. 28 tracks here
flow rather smoothly into each other evoking a mood of those rarely
surfacing memories when you were 5 , and your grandma insisted that you
sleep after lunch that summer at her countryhouse. You pretended under the
quilt and that smell of old furniture,
dust particles in the rays of light, a bee buzzing against a window...
guess i am getting long-winded. Call this music extreme minimalism: only a
distanced female vocs hold together a fairy tale gentle bells here and a
bit of lovely cello there. music to sleep into and see good dreams.

I've listened to the first disc so far...it sure is nice to
hear Gordon again. The packaging is attempting something
great...but, well...it comes with these little postcard like
things and a spine card, but the spine card isn't attached and
the postcards are too long to fit in the CD jewel box, so you end
up with about five delicate things that require special
attention. Oh, it also has a CD condom that fits too tightly with
the postcards and CD stuffed inside it, so you have to be extra
carful pulling out the CD--like Lanterna. Look at me bitching
about insipid things, with all these lovely people on the CD. Bad
Delaney, bad.

both after the flood and lucid (another band on the same
label) are very much worth it. think of the wierd hallucinations
of his name is alive's "home is in your head" combined with this
mortal coil. i know that comparison's been made before, but it's
pretty accurate. it's very pretty and all, but in a creepy and
unsettling way. i think after the flood is a little more
listenable, but both artists are quite good. think very minimal
music mixed with wispy vocals, environmental and source
recordings, occasional strings, and sparse electronics.
definitely some of the more interesting and inspiring music i've
heard recently. true story -- while listening to some of this
stuff, i drifted off to sleep. however, i had to get up and
change the disc because i began having some very wierd dreams. it
just creeped me out, but i love listening to it.

V/A - After the flood 2 2xCD (ae records) Lavishly
packaged double cd set of this oft-rumoured and frequently
delayed this mortal coil-ish type project. The first disc is
entitled : Vocal, the second : instrumental. The players include
(among others) Labradford, Gordon Sharp (Cindytalk, TMC), Warren
Defever (His Name is Alive), Carl Hultgren (Windy & Carl), and
'ae's' in-house band Lucid. Comes in cardboard slipcase and 4
full-color postcards.
