"Transient Waves exist somewhere within the shifting,
underground network of US 'post-rock' operators. Like peers Rome,
Labradford, Bowery Electric and the ultra-cool Kranky label,
Transient Waves sound is rooted in the drifting, disembodied
textures of the processed guitar, as their name suggests. This
will be followed by a full album in 1999. On the B-side are
drastic reworks by the mighty Two Lone Swordsmen and Stasis."

Transient Waves have already proven their dexterity at
layering drums, cello, oboe, guitars, voice and recorded sounds
into masterworks of mood and catalysts for dreamy spaces in the
imagination. Last year‚s limited single on Mind Expansion was our
first experience of TW's delicately textured sonics, and June's
s/t CD on Che pushed us off the deep end in love with their
bright but introspective, terrestrial but blissed out style. On
Wading and Waiting, Transient Waves draw together the aquatic and
otherworldly with three lengthy tracks comprising the skillfully
beat-laden (with live drums nonetheless) and thoroughly
mind-blowing "Peaceful Madman", the soothingly plodding,
lullaby-like "Rest For The Weary" and the utterly breathless and
atmospheric "Always Ascending". These compositions, conjured in
home studios on two coasts, feed off their proximity to the ocean
and evoke suspended underwater worlds made brilliantly
luminescent by the bright moonlight, which bends and twists in
ribbons of gold as it penetrates the crystal clear waters they
call home. The bonus 10", originally available with the LP only,
contains two alternate treatments of the skeletal drum and
melody, each quite unique from the others. Altered and added
vocals, effects and arrangement make for a bonus worth its salt,
thoughtfully composed not for the sake of a good looking extra,
lightly-lavender-tinted clear vinyl platter, but rather for an
exercise in songwriting and song listening that allows for
several variations on a theme to suit many moods.

pop artists doing their epic personal mantras: their
musical equivalent of OM. The series is about music for
